Busy schedule awaits Cranston, Team Canada volleyball

first_img2015 is shaping up to be one of the busiest years in some time for Dana Cranston and her teammates on Team Canada’s women’s volleyball team. The team has two games scheduled in Calgary on May 13 and 14 against Puerto Rico, and will also be taking part in the Pan American Games in Toronto in July.Part of the reason in wanting to take part in more games this year is to increase the exposure of the team on Canadian soil.“We really want to get volleyball growing as a sport in Canada,” Cranston said. “I think a huge part of that is that the men have been playing here the past few summers and that’s really growing the guys game. We want to do that on the girls side.”- Advertisement -The opportunity to play at home in a huge international tournament is one that doesn’t present itself very often, and as such has members of the team looking forward to July.“It’s pretty cool that it’s a subset of the Olympics and that it’s on home turf,” she said. “We have a lot of work to do this summer. We have some Grand Prix matches and World Cup qualifiers. I know that a lot of our team has their eyes set on the Pan Am Games because it’s a huge competition and we get to play in front of our home crowd which doesn’t happen very often.”The volleyball portion of the Pan Am Games runs from July 16-26.Advertisementlast_img read more
