Players Giving Back

first_imgToo often we view headlines that report on some pro-athlete being arrested for some alleged crime.  No sport has a corner on this type of news.  That is why when the Cincinnati stations carried the story of the “Make A Wish” Foundation arranging a special day for  a young man at a Reds baseball game was a breath of fresh air. This young man’s favorite player is Brandon Phillips, and even though Brandon is on the disabled list, he came to the park and played catch with the young man.  Brandon also asked the young man to autograph his T-shirt before he autographed several items for the young boy.Jay Bruce took the young man to lunch before he had to report to the ball park.  During the game, this young man got to sit in the booth with Chris Welch and Tom Brennamen.  I doubt if any amount of medicine could have helped him more than that day with the Reds. This is just one example of athlete’s giving back.  Most of this is not reported in the 30 minutes usually allotted to local news.  Great job, Cincinnati Reds.last_img
