Try to skip school if you value your life.”The user finished the comment with a profane hashtag directed at the high school, then posted another one warning students “I don’t think you guys are gonna wanna hide at the 900s” apparently referring to a cluster of classrooms on the northern end of the school. The comment, which was posted sometime around 4 p.m. Saturday onto a March 22 post congratulating Bonita Vista High’s 2019-20 ASB officers, appeared to have gone unnoticed by authorities and school officials for nearly a whole day.About noon Sunday, Twitter user @AlbertTovar13 tweeted at the Chula Vista Police Department with a screenshot of the comment, which he said was taken by his son.The police department responded thanking the user and said the high school “will be addressing this concern as soon as they can.” Around the same time as the Police Department’s response, the high school addressed the threat on its ASB Instagram page and its Twitter account. “This afternoon we were made aware of a possible social media threat to our school,” it said on both pages. “We are working with Chula Vista Police who (are) actively investigating this matter. We will update you further as we learn more.” Updated: 7:25 AM KUSI Newsroom, Social Media Threat Made Against Bonita Vista High School Posted: April 7, 2019 Categories: Local San Diego News FacebookTwitter April 7, 2019 KUSI Newsroom
Facebook0TwitterEmailPrintFriendly分享Homer Electric Association, working in coordination with fire managers, on the Swan Lake Fire, has de-energized the 115,000-volt Transmission Tie Line that connects Bradley Lake Hydroelectric facility to the rest of the railbelt utilities. Shelley: “We did that to allow the fire teams to work in and around that line. I know in cooperation with the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge they’ve allowed us to go in there and clear that line and knock some stuff down hopefully to protect the line.” Bruce Shelley with HEA: “That is the tie line between Anchorage and the rest of the railbelt in the Peninsula. What this means is that we do not have electrons running between Bradley Hydro and Anchorage right now.” Homer Electric has been in communication with railbelt utilities and ensure that this action will not affect consumer power on the Kenai Peninsula or points north. The request was made by fire managers to de-energize the transmission line that connects Bradley Lake Hydroelectric facility to the rest of the Railbelt utilities. The tie line is a 68 mile long, 115 kV transmission line from the Bradley Lake Power plant to a substation near HEA’s existing Soldotna substation.
Thefirst quarter PIB ad page numbers painted a pretty bleak picture for theindustry. The revenue numbers told anequally sorry story for all but a few publications. Among the top revenue gainers were HallmarkMagazine (up 53.5 percent in revenue) and Disney’s Wondertime (8 percent). What’s that you say? Hallmarkand Wondertime have both been shutdown? How could that be? It’s because the PIB revenue numbers bearonly a fleeting resemblance to reality.More broadly, many magazine business metrics reported in thetrade press and analyzed by media planners provide misleading views of what’sreally going on in the industry. Here are three of the most prominent examples, and three modestproposals on how to fix them: The Problem: PIB PIB’s advertising revenue numbers are notoriously inflatedbecause they rely on rate cards. Formany publishers, the real revenue per ad page can be 50 percent of the ratecard after taking into account advertiser discounts, bonus pages, advertorialsand remnant rates. The advertising pagecounts are also subject to some distortions but to a far lesser degree. The Fix: Keep thead page counts. Kill the ad revenuereport. The Problem: ABCABC’s twice-yearly FAS-FAX circulation report also gets alot of media attention when it comes out. Trade stories usually center on two themes: which magazines grew theirtotal circulation and which magazines missed rate base. Media planners alsolook at these two metrics to determine a magazine’s “circulation vitality.”Unfortunately, total circulation and making rate base aretwo of the least informative pieces of information on a magazine’s pinksheet. In both cases, publishers candirectly control their numbers by paying for verified and/or public placesubscriptions. From a pure economic perspective, the excessive focus on ratebase can also lead to bad business decisions as publishers pay to acquire andprint subscription copies that have no advertising benefit. The Fix: Mediaplanners-along with ABC and the trade press-should be emphasizing the trends inpaid (instead of total) subscriptions and single copy sales, the two metricsthat relate directly to the economic health of a title. The Problem: Mr. MagazineI give a lot of credit to Samir “Mr. Magazine” Husni. Anyone who bets their career so solidly onthe magazine industry is a comrade of mine and anyone who reads this site. That being said, his “magazines launched thismonth” numbers really tell us very little about the health of the industry. In February 2009 for example, Husni’s site claims that, incredibly, 80 new magazinetitles were launched, compared to approximately 50 in February 2008 and 35in February 2007. Husni himself promotesthe February numbers in his blog as proofthat “print is not dead”—and he is something of a fixture in the magazinetrade press (includingthis one).Who could these brave magazine-launching souls possiblybe? The Mr. Magazine site helpfully providesthe cover of each launched title so we can do some additional analysis. Roughly 90 percent of the titles presented as”new launches” are actually newsstand special issues from medium and largepublishers. Having worked at anenthusiast publisher, I can say that more newsstand one-shots are a signal thatpublishers are trying to stretch their investments in editorial (by repurposingold content) and newsstand distribution (by “stacking” another release onto anexisting bipad). The Fix: Mr. Magazine (or his students) should countnew bipads instead of titles. A newbipad shows that a publisher is investing in a new magazine with its owndistribution profile. A new magazine onan old bipad (e.g. “Taste of Home Presents: Casserole Slow Cooker & Soups”)is not a “new title.”Are there other metrics that you find irksome ormisleading? Comment below and I willincorporate them into a future blog post.

Walgreens’ flu index reports that four Texas cities — Dallas, El Paso, Tyler and Waco — are among the top 10 spots on the nationwide list of areas with the highest flu activity. The list is created using retail prescription data about flu medication bought from nationwide Walgreens. It’s hard to know at this point how the season compares to previous years because the season can peak anywhere between December and March, said Lara Anton, a press officer for the Texas Department of State Health Services. Last year 9,553 Texans died from flu-related illnesses.“We don’t know if this season has peaked yet,” Anton said. “We’ve had the number of visits to doctors go down for the past two weeks so it’s looking like maybe it’s starting to go down but we need a few weeks to know for sure.”When Keisha Whitman saw the rise in the number of flu tests and emergency room visits for Cuero Regional Hospital in December and January, she was surprised. As the infection control nurse at Cuero Regional, 90 miles east of San Antonio, Whitman runs the surveillance reports that get sent to the Texas Department of State Health Services. She’s been with the hospital for nearly 18 years and says she “can honestly say this is probably the worst year that we’ve had statistic-wise for sure.”The hospital’s emergency room and five affiliate clinics have been slammed with patients. Doctors and nurses are donning masks to cover their mouths to try and avoid catching and spreading germs. Whitman said there’s been concern about the number of people who need to be hospitalized. Share Ivan Pierre Aguirre for The Texas TribuneA clinician at the Project Vida Health Center in El Paso on Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2018. Clinics and hospitals across the state have been dealing with a tough flu season this winter. The staff at Project Vida Health Center have been taking waves of flu patients and haven’t been able to come up for air.Bill Schlesinger, CEO for the community health center in El Paso, said the flu has caused a “significant take down” of his own staff members, with between 20 and 30 percent of them getting the flu even after being vaccinated. They’ve had to fill in where they can with people covering shifts, working longer hours and not taking time off.“Remember the videos of the tsunami in Japan and it just kept coming? It was just like that,” Schlesinger said.Health providers across Texas have been battling a severe flu season that is sending thousands of patients to doctors’ offices and hospital emergency rooms. More than 4,000 Texans have died so far from flu-related illnesses this season, according to the Texas Department of State Health Services. Texas is one of 43 states reporting high flu activity, according to the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. “Sometimes people don’t want to wait or just can’t wait,” Whitman said. “I think because clinics have been so terribly busy and people may call and try to schedule a visit, their recourse is coming to the emergency room.”Part of the reason this flu season has impacted more people than usual is that the vaccine hasn’t fought the H3N2 strain well. But though the vaccine for this season’s flu strain has not been effective, state and federal health experts are still urging people to get their flu shots. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released data last week showing 84 children nationwide have died from the flu this season. Federal officials have pointed out that three out of four of the children who died did not get their flu shot. The vaccine has provided 59 percent protection against this year’s flu strain in children ages 8 and younger.Dr. Dennis Conrad, president of the Texas Pediatric Society, said young children are highly susceptible to being exposed to the flu and should be immunized. He said vaccines are the best form of prevention and protection during flu season and that even if patients get the flu after the shot, it will likely be a milder case.“Many people claim that the only time they ever got the flu is when they got the flu shot and that’s not true,” Conrad said. “The shot itself is incapable of causing the disease, that’s why it’s been perpetuated by people who want a convenient excuse to not be immunized.”The unpredictability of the flu is why Dr. David Lakey, chief medical officer for The University of Texas System, says he takes it seriously every year.Part of the issue is “people forget how bad the flu is,” particularly for children, older adults, people living with chronic health issues and pregnant women, Lakey said. He said he is optimistic that this flu season will go away in the next month but people should still call their primary care doctors to make an appointment if they’re sick, get vaccinated, stay home if they’re sick, cover their mouths when coughing and wash their hands.“All of us are waiting for the next big pandemic of influenza, and I think that’s where this season needs to be eye opening,” Lakey said. “There wasn’t a good match between the virus and the vaccine and even with this bad seasonal influenza, we had emergency rooms backed up and hospitals on diversion, which continues to reinforce in me that if a real pandemic occurs, it will be severe on the health system.”
Alex Wong/Getty ImagesThen-FBI Director Robert Mueller testifies during a hearing before the House Judiciary Committee on June 13, 2013, on Capitol HillThe man leading the Justice Department’s investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election has been keeping busy.Special counsel Robert Mueller has been on the job for about nine months. But he has already charged 19 people with wrongdoing — and won guilty pleas from the president’s former campaign vice chairman and his former national security adviser.Scholars who focus on politically charged investigations that may lead into the White House have been taking note.“Robert Mueller’s pace in this investigation really is very similar to some of the best special prosecutors in modern history,” said Ken Gormley, the president of Duquesne University and the author of two books on special prosecutors. These investigations carry special burdens: to move forward quietly, with no leaks, and quickly, to prove guilt or innocence.“The whole point of appointing an independent counsel in these kind of instances is to deal with the fact that there’s a cloud over the highest levels of the executive branch and to restore public confidence, one way or the other,” Gormley said. For many people, the model prosecutor was Archibald Cox, who investigated Watergate for a little more than a year before he was fired.“I’m not looking for a confrontation,” Cox told reporters in 1973. “I’ve worried a good deal through my life about the problems of imposing too much strain upon our constitutional institutions and I’m certainly not out to get the president of the United States.”During his tenure, Cox developed evidence about obstruction of justice by President Richard Nixon. The prosecutor who replaced Cox built on that work, ultimately leading to Nixon’s resignation.Gormley said the current special prosecutor, Robert Mueller, is operating in that same mold. But at the White House, President Trump and his lawyers have been pressing the Mueller team to move faster. So is another familiar figure: former Whitewater independent counsel Ken Starr.“The American people, I think, want to know, was there collusion,” Starr told CNN last week. “Let’s get that answered. That would be my sense, if I were at the Justice Department.”Starr spent five years and more than $40 million investigating President Bill Clinton. Critics say Starr took too long and wandered away from his original mission. He was far from the only independent counsel to come under attack as a “roving Frankenstein monster,” Gormley said.In the category of “no end,” there was the investigation of Clinton’s secretary of Housing and Urban Development, Henry Cisneros. In 1995, then-Attorney General Janet Reno asked for an independent counsel to determine whether Cisneros should face prosecution for providing false information about payments to a former mistress.“I’m disappointed by that outcome but I’m hopeful that the investigation will be completed expeditiously,” Cisneros told reporters at the time. But any hope Cisneros had for a speedy resolution went bust. The independent counsel in his case, David Barrett, kept working even after the law authorizing his work expired. Cisneros pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge and was later pardoned by the president. Still, Barrett’s work continued. The final report emerged in 2006, nearly 11 years after he took office.Robert Mueller is a hard-driving former FBI director, not known for dallying in his work. He’s already secured indictments against Russians for running an information warfare campaign aimed at the last presidential election. And yet, Wake Forest University professor Katy Harriger said measuring Mueller’s success will be a challenge.“For some people, success will only be if somehow the president gets impeached,” Harriger said. “And for other people, success is a complete exoneration.”Push away that cloud of politics, she said, and success may be a report or a set of conclusions that most people can believe.Copyright 2018 NPR. Kolkata: The tableau of the Bengal government is all set to take part in the Republic Day Parade in New Delhi. The Defence Ministry has already approved it with the theme ‘Santiniketan and Gandhiji at Beliaghata’. Bengal is one of the 14 states whose tableau will be gracing the parade on January 26.This is for the first time when the Defense ministry had selected the theme of the tableaus for the Republic Day Parade. Gandhiji was selected as the theme to mark the occasion of his 150th birth anniversary. Bengal’s tableau has been designed as per plans and directions of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. The moment will be captured through the tableau this year. A fibre model is being created to portray the meeting. The model will be placed at the front of the trailer which will be 48 feet in length and 14 feet wide. The model of Rabindranath Tagore’s house ‘Shyamoli’ has been created as a background of the meeting,” a senior official of the state Information and Cultural Affairs department said. Gandhiji had sat on fast at this place in Beliaghata on August 13, 1947 for 73 hours to protest against countrywide riots. Some rioters had surrendered before the ‘Father of the Nation’ and after they assured peace, Gandhiji broke his fast. “This entire sequence has been etched out in the form of model,” the official added. It may be mentioned that on August 15, 1947, when India gained Independence, Gandhiji was at Haider Manzil. There is an expert committee of the Ministry of Defence that qualifies the tableaus that the states propose to display at the Republic Day Parade after going through all its details. The committee goes through the sketches, models and all aspects of the tableau. Last year, the tableau of the state government with the theme “Ekatai Sampriti” was not allowed by the Defence ministry. It may be mentioned that the erstwhile Left Front government had refused to send tableaus at the Republic Day Parade in Delhi from 1999. It was in 2012 when under the initiative of Mamata Banerjee the state’s tableau took part in the parade. Bengal had won the award for the best tableau in 2014 and 2016 respectively. In 2014, the tableau was based on Chhau Dance while in 2016 it was Banglar Baul. In 2017, the theme for the tableau was Sharod Utsav which depicted how people from all communities participate in the state’s biggest festival — Durga Puja.
